Who said that you can’t time travel – 1920 to 2020 in a blink of an eye … well, just my one eye. The era of prohibition didn’t stop the flappers from dancing on high tables with champagne supernova keeping everyone afloat in some smokey one of a kind NY club, rubbing elbows with the ladies and gents, who don’t care for sleep and early retirement. And who sleeps in Gotham anyway ? Blink twice and Fast Forward 100 years – I’m teleported to some swanky LA rooftop, in amidst the limelight and star gazing, counting down seconds to midnight hour of magic and and wanderlust of the new decade in my couture Chanel, bopping to some fun electro beats like the original time pirate I am. Blink again? Well I won’t tell you yet how that turned out … another time another party. Happy 2020 kids!!!
If alternating current meets direct current in one of my subconscious parallels – I always choose the most indirect route to get there, sort of like Alice in Wonderland led on by the Cheshire Cat, chasing the white Rabbit of my fascination. This time off to Washington DC for some autumn foliage, national monuments and last rays of the eastern standard time; and then LA/NY layover to St. Barthelemy as in French West Indies for some tanning and white sandy beaches, flying jets and zipping vespas on the coast, tasting first class island cuisine and of course more shopping. And since I didn’t get to spend much time in NY, I came back for more culture the week before Thanksgiving, perusing museums, opera, broadway plays and theatre. So do it like a true rockinrolla and be an original, like AC/DC, baby!
After my recent trips to warmer climates like the Yucatan and Hawaiian tropics, and some local exursions to Napa Valley, New York, and LA summertime fun, I was pointed in the direction of Costa Rica. One way to describe it is “Paradise Lost”– a rugged, rainforested Central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. The luscious jungles and best surf beaches in the world, historic volcanoes, hidden waterfalls and biodiversity that is still untamed. And man, did I “hit the ground running” in my Landrover Defender like Dora the Explorer, driving hundreds of miles and many hours, just to witness the majestic power of nature and beauty of our amazing planet! It’s pure magic I say, miracles abound! Enjoy the journey, wherever it might take you!
That somewhere can be anywhere, but if you really want to see rainbows in the making ? go to Hawaii, our 50th and most recent state in the US. Located in Oceania, being the northernmost island group in Polynesia, the state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian archipelago, with eight main islands I had visited in my teens many moons ago. I was feeling tropical this summer after my Tulum trip and decided to revisit Oahu and the big island Hawaii to perfect my tan! So I hop on the Disney plane with my adventurous friends and off we go to explore those active volcanos, go horseback riding at Jurassic park, and swim in the warm central Pacific ocean at the most beautiful beaches in the world. I feel like a teen again, eating shaved ice and building magic sand castles with the kids like me! Enjoy Hawaii and Aloha! Mahalo:)
I have heard so many great things about Mexico and its culture, customs and history, but had no great desire to visit anywhere south of the border until two weeks ago – Tulum loomed on my horizon with its warm and mysterious invitation. And as my friends call me “Dora the Explorer”, I just could not refuse the possibility of being somewhere new yet again. So off I flew to the Yucatan, specifically Quintana Roo, the coastal strip covered in jungles and beautiful beaches, with posh boutique hotels and welcoming staff, daily yoga practices and local rituals and amazing ethnic food, not to mention the booming night life amongst Tulum ruins and antiquity. Pictures speak louder than words, so get charmed and live these magic moments with me… Blessings!
As Mel Tormé ‘s California Suite song goes – The West Coast just might be the Best Coast, at least for this one Summer I am away from the East side of the Americas. And guess what? It ain’t so bad – Cali is spectacular, From Palm Springs getaways to San Francisco Bay lights, From Nevada heat in Vegas to our own LA historic Chateau Marmont hideaway. Enjoy some of these moments with me! Here is to endless Summer of Love!
