While my plans to visit Europe this Fall got hijacked by the infamous virus, what’s a girl to do if she is banned from Paris? Click those heels and teleport to Texas, perhaps Austin or somewhere I’ve never been. I like Texas and Texans in general, all things “cowboy” and country, those handcrafted Lucchese boots, Stetson Hats, vintage denim Levi’s and rock-and-roll tees, and so much midwestern swag that at times it gets lost in translation. Cute town, with bars open early afternoon, health-conscious Texans working out by the river, really great coffee, collectible Broncos, great Cuisine, lake Travis, old neighboring towns and lots of sunshine. Of course I still love Cali, and there’s still my fave Chateau Marmont, DTLA excursions, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree retreats and fabulous shoes to wear. Enjoy the joy ride and keep smiling at the world!
Are you the spy who loved me? Perhaps nobody can explain it better than Carly Simon in her cult classic song from James Bond’s serial franchise. My pictorial is an homage to her sultry and soulful lyrics – My photos-her words. Shhhh. Your secrets are safe with me:) Promise! “Nobody does it better. Makes me feel sad for the rest. Nobody does it half as good as you. Baby, you’re the best. I wasn’t lookin’ but somehow you found me. It tried to hide from your love light. But like heaven above me The spy who loved me Is keepin’ all my secrets safe tonight. And nobody does it better. Though sometimes I wish someone could. Nobody does it quite the way you do. Why’d you have to be so good? The way that you hold me Whenever you hold me. There’s some kind of magic inside you. That keeps me from runnin’. But just keep it comin’. How’d you… ” Photography@RobertKerian Stylist @laroussian
What happens when transatlantic flights are suspended due to the raging, worldwide pandemic, unless you are one tough secret service agent or a superstar with diplomatic immunity? I can’t disclose all my secrets now, but what I can do is stage a fashion photoshoot, with vintage Italian cars like a sweet tomato red Alfa Romeo, sprinkled with helicopters, future retro wardrobe from Pucci and Fendi, and a kick-ass attitude to boot. Here is my own reenactment of “The Woman from Uncle, ” the mysterious, gone rouge spy that loves all of you, often finding herself around the world on planes, trains, and super cool automobiles, on some impossible mission to better the world and humanity. God Bless the Bladerunners and Rebels with a cause, Lucky for you a good kind of cause and effect. Be Safe! Ciao…

If August was the month of last chances – September had better be memorable. As our planet is still turning on its axis, albeit slightly askew and with a wild twist due to the current state of world affairs – it is only a matter of time until the inevitable question clearly poses itself: what is one left with, after certain common liberties are taken away and life as we know it is placed on hold indefinitely? Freedom to travel as one chooses, disrupted work and family schedules, suspended cultural and sporting events, and humanity as a whole put under some kind of magic spell, not unlike “The Sleeping Beauty”, waiting to be kissed back to life, lust and evolution. I ask that same question – only to lead me to another reinvention of myself. As the creative director of my own artistic domain – I thrive on creation, collaboration, sparks of madness, joy, brilliance and sheer desire to spread the beauty and the transformative power all around me. My friends often call me an “Anomaly”, a being that is but shouldn’t really be– I feel like the Woman who fell to Earth, looking for my tribe of creatives and the place of belonging and acceptance, safety and freedom to be just the way the Universe created me to be. So without further ado – please meet Rachel, a gifted Bladerunner who finally remembers what happens in September! Shhhh… can you keep a secret, if I tell you where the spaceship is?…
Those who know me are familiar with my love for the California low desert, aka Palm Springs, where the sun shines brightly in the clear skies upon spectacular mountains and reflects in deep blue pools, chill like most of its inhabitants and admirers of all things retro cool. Being stuck in Cali is not such a bad thing after all, as I head out to L’Horizon for the weekend, the 1950’s desert gem for glamour and jetset playground of Hollywood A-listers and US Presidents alike. Originally designed in 1952 by W. Cody as a private family retreat for TV producer and oil tycoon Jack Wrather and his wife, actress Bonita “Bunny” Granville, setting foot on the property I feel like Priscilla, the Queen of the Desert. As I play along the shadows of its former guests like Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe, and countless other luminaries, time travel seems like a snap of my fingers. Voila! So what do we do here aside from relaxing poolside and celebrity spotting? We shoot pictures and frolic in the rays of the Golden era! PS… call me Pris for short. C’mon! get happy:)
As one of my favorite Douglas Adams’ quotes from ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’ – “There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why is it is there, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.” Needless to say I am not alone in this feeling of displacement and disbelief, or its’ suspension. The whole world has been placed under some strange magic spell, a cosmic flux, this perpetual Groundhog Day forced upon us by some mysterious Virus, hovering indefinitely like an alien spaceship in the air, with no plans of leaving our Solar System. As some countries are opening up, others are still in ‘shut down” mode – which leaves me to entertain other possibilities of not so distant travel. So as I decide on where to go and what to do, enjoy my little escapades here and there… for now. Until next time! Ciao…
“June Gloom” has never been in my repertoire. Alas, this summer began somewhat auspiciously. Between the ongoing pandemic, and the national protests against racial injustice still perpetrated in my progressive United States to this day, and the new lunar eclipse – 2020 is not short of surprises. Clearly, the new decade facilitates much needed political and economic reforms, positive changes in our attitude toward one another, and the bond of human connection that never ceases to amaze me. “Everyone is guilty of all the good they did not do,” as Voltaire once declared. As we are all united in this global crisis, let us stand for one another and be the messengers of peace, love and understanding. For we must all get along, as there is is just one race – the human race. All the while, I am still in awe of my home state of California, and am bewitched, bothered and bewildered by its beauty, warmth, and heart. I am officially a California girl, or better yet – a California Soul!
Well my dears –April flew by like a radioactive jet, and May is upon us – from showers to flowers in 5 seconds flat! March was 30 years ago, April was 30 minutes long. Time is relative, especially in these strange days of quarantine life worldwide. So what does one do when there is so much but little time? We make it super interesting with a twist. Growing up in California, I have never seen the poppy fields bloom in the Antelope Valley near Los Angeles, or made a small discovery of parks in Malibu, Topanga Canyon, Wilson Mountain range still covered in patches of snow in a middle of May, or Pioneer Town near Palm Springs. These type of decisions take minutes as I jump into a fast car on an adventure of what feels like a lifetime being a home buddy… who I really never am! Enjoy the snaps of my beautiful State and Cali May fleurs… and put a mask on!:)
Since the global pandemic completely reshaped the world order – work, travel, shopping, art, music, social systems and networks are placed on hold indefinitely. And since I was not able to stop in Paris on the way from London due to the enforced travel restricitons and general calamity early this March, I check myself into my favorite place in LA – the infamous Chateau Marmont on Sunset strip for a week, and isolate like any other regular rockstar. The place is quiet, private and soulful – I love it here, I have always adored it! Let us be glam and celebrate life all day, every day! Enjoy the rooftop views of my beautiful City of Angels! XOXOXO
